Years ago when we were first starting our business, we had the continuous feeling of competition amongst other photographers. It was a battle from within that was overly draining. There were times when it drove me absolutely batty. In the fall of 2006, I went to a photography conference in LA that gave me a completely different perspective on the idea of competition. I realized that getting to know other photographers would allow both parties to benefit to some degree. It may happen at different times, but overall the giving back mentality would definitely apply.
Well, 4+ years later I am so very thankful for the network of photographers that has been established around us. We have developed friendships that have exceeded outside the walls of our individual businesses. We encourage one another, support each other and have even grown each others businesses by means of referrals. I can’t even begin to express how thankful I am for how these 4 years have transformed our business in such a positive away. If you are a new photographer reading this, build a network of other photographers around you. Whether it be to bounce an idea off of someone or to have some names to refer when you’re booked. It’s huge…I promise. It is always an honor to be referred by another local photographer. We have our list of referrals to pass on when we are booked as well. Again, I say…it’s huge! 😉
So, why did I go that direction when I’m supposed to be sharing a newborn session with you? Well, Jenn and Brian are some of our ‘photographer friends’ that we have grown close to over the years. We are thankful for all of the love and support they have given us over the years. We are hopeful that the feelings have been reciprocated back to them in some form. And, of course, it truly is a blessing to have friends, who happen to be photographers, who can capture these memorable times. It was an honor to capture this time for you guys. Love and hugs to you…
